A Couple Ideas About Business
Three Ideas For Potential Businesses
- Magic The Gathering Card Resales - "Magic Greeting Cards"
- In the collectible card game, Magic The Gathering, certain rare cards are worth a fair amount of money as they can be extremely powerful in the game. However, these sought-after cards are only available through official channels by opening packs of cards, which contain certain cards at random. This means people have to buy pack after pack in order to gamble for the card they are seeking.
This business will offer specific cards for purchase, by buying cases of booster cards, opening the packs, and then listing each card individually for purchase. This will allow players to purchase the cards they want, rather than gamble by opening booster packs. For this convenience, we will charge a bit of markup that will allow the company to reinvest revenue by buying more booster packs.
As the business grows, we will expand in a few ways. One is expanding from an online-only shop, into a distributor that partners with local comic shops. We would provide these shops with stock to sell to their customers. We could also rent space from one of these shops, and arrange to use the shop when it was closed for sorting and shipping our stock.
After we acquired enough stock, we could start to offer card packages, and start to sell entire ready-to-go tournament decks, using the most popular card lists from the site mtgdecks. We would then attend local tournaments, offering tournament decks for rent and sale. Customers could either rent a deck to play in the tournament, or buy one outright to keep and take home.
Through all this, "Magic Greeting Cards" seeks to greet new players into the hobby, by giving them an easy way to get started in playing in competitive settings without having to break the bank by gambling on booster packs. - De-googled Android Phones - "Secure Phones"
- There are now multiple Android alternatives for certain Android phones that offer more privacy, enhanced battery life, and better security such as CalyxOS and GrapheneOS. However, accessing these alternatives is not straightforward. I experienced this firsthand while getting a replacement phone set up. I wanted to buy a used phone to save money, but after buying a used phone I got a version that was carrier unlocked but wouldn't allow me to install alternative operating systems because it was previously sold by a vendor. Only phones that were OEM unlocked would allow me to install another OS, and I had to return my first purchase and then contact sellers until I found one that had an OEM unlocked device.
Secure Phones would take care of all the trouble of finding the properly OEM unlocked phones, refurbishing them, and installing a mix of GrapheneOS and CalyxOS onto the phones, and then list them for sale on platforms like ebay as "De-googled phones". Some sellers already do this, marking up phones by an average of $100 per device that runs one of these Android alternatives. Then, I would set up a stand-alone storefront on my own website as well, and drive traffic to it with targeted social media advertisements (using Instagram, Facebook, etc). I would use advertising taglines such as "Tired of carrying a wiretap around in your pocket? Get a Secure Phone!" - Arial Imaging - "Sky Eye"
- This business would be based on offering professional drone photography. Although anyone can buy a drone, how they are used is heavily regulated. Without filing for special FAA exemptions, it is illegal to fly over people, at night, or over 500 feet. This means that certain shots, especially high-altitude shots, aren't something everyone can do themselves. If I got certified as a commercial drone pilot, and proficient at filing for exemptions, I could offer drone photography services on commission.
Another service I could offer is drone thermal imaging. This would be useful for industrial clients, such as those performing building audits, inspecting HVAC systems on larger buildings, irrigation analysis for farms, etc. I could offer this service because of the equipment I have on hand. Not too long ago, I was able to buy a thermal drone camera for insanely cheap from an obscure Chinese supplier off Aliexpress. Its specs are the equivalent of cameras that are many, many times more expensive through American suppliers. Currently, I have it on a custom 3D-printed mount to turn it into a thermal monocular, but I could take it out and mount it to a drone. By custom mounting this camera on one of my drones I could offer thermal photography to clients for hundreds of dollars, which a customer would otherwise have to purchase a multi-thousand drone to be able to accomplish on their own. Down the line, I could even offer my own custom drone builds and sell these custom drones to other pilots.
